Rep. Haggard recognizes Back Door Quilts for more than 50 years of service

STATEHOUSE (Aug. 31, 2026) – Back Door Quilts recently received the Governor's Half Century Business Award recognizing its long-standing business operations in Johnson County, according to State Rep. Craig Haggard (R-Mooresville).

"Behind every established business is a story of dedication and resilience, and our community is blessed to have ones like Back Door Quilts," Haggard said. "This is a milestone worth celebrating, because their commitment has enhanced Johnson County and beyond for decades."

Launched by Linda Hale in 1973 with friends in her neighborhood, Back Door Quilts has continued to expand and evolve, now operating a 6,000-square-foot storefront in Greenwood that offers a variety of quilting products, classes and clubs. The shop was recognized as one of the 10 Top Shops in 2005 in American Patchwork and Quilting's Quilt Sampler magazine.

The Governor’s Half Century and Century Business Awards honor Hoosier businesses and organizations that have remained in operation for a minimum of 50 or 100 consecutive years, respectively, and have demonstrated a commitment to community service. Thirty-four businesses were recognized this year and more than 1,300 Indiana companies have been recognized during the program's 34-year history.
